5 Tips to Stay Sun-Safe This Summer

Whether you’ve decided to take your pooch for a walk and a swim, or you simply want to bask in the healing rays during your morning meditation, some precautions are necessary.

Spending a healthy amount of time in the sun during specific times of day can be beneficial for your immune system, vitamin D production, mood, and your energy levels – if you take preventative measures to avoid skin cancer, sunburn, and other potential health issues that might arise from excessive sun exposure. Here are your sun safety essentials to keep in mind!

Nourish your skin with sunscreen

Just like with all other preventative measures you’re taking to protect your health, applying sunscreen (and reapplying it regularly) is essential for cancer prevention. Choose sunscreen with at least 30 SPF but be mindful of the ingredients – some might not be good for your particular skin type.

Read the label carefully to see how long the protection lasts. Typically, sunscreen will keep you safe for about two hours, so taking it with you to reapply when needed is a good practice.
